Application of the unmanned survey platforms such as USV and AUV allows WAMS to conduct faster, more accurate, and more cost-effective inspections than a traditional tethered ROV system which is piloted on the sea’s surface from a dedicated mother vessel thus being limited in maneuverability and extremely low speed of advance.

The tandem of an AUV closely followed by the USV (which ensures a reliable subsea positioning and continues communication link with the surface during survey operations) would execute the inspection mission according to the predefined program utilizing multi-beam echo sounder to obtain the 3D images of the asset and the adjacent sea floor whilst underwater laser scanner and high-resolution digital photos will detect any deformations, cracks, free spans or misplaced man-made objects.
